Recipients of Funds from the Jeremy Wohl Education Society Pyschoeducational Testing
What is a Pyschoeducational test?
A pyschoeducational test can identify learning challenges in students from all ages, from young children to adults. The testing identifies areas of strength and weaknesses in a student’s learning profile and provides a deeper understanding of their educational abilities. Psycho-educational testing diagnoses the root cause of a student’s academic issues, and identifies a plan for solving the problem. The student will then have an action plan to improve their academic performance. This testing is performed by a registered pyschologist, for the cost of $2400 – $3000.
Psychological-educational testing has been provided for these students by the Jeremy Wohl Education Society. The students’ names have been changed and their school names omitted to ensure their privacy.
“Valerie” is a Grade 3 Burnaby student. Valerie has needed ongoing Learning Resource support and has mostly worked in small groups to motivate her participation. This year she is receiving more individualized support for her literacy and numeracy skills which continue to be well below grade level. Valerie has attention difficulties and anxiousness. Having a psycho- educational assessment done will provide valuable insight to Valerie’s learning profile and how she may be better supported in further development in her areas of challenge. Her parents and school have come to a collaborative decision that this assessment is the next important step to supporting Valerie moving forward.

“Jack” is a Grade 2 student in Vancouver. Jack has been having difficulties with changes and trying new things. His level of anxiety often leaves him emotional. Jack struggles with his academics, especially his reading and math and often needs support and encouragement to do seatwork. Jack has been receiving ongoing Learning Resource intervention for his literacy and numeracy skills. His parents have been supportive in providing a speech & language assessment, OT assessment and consulting with other professionals to help support Jack, but there has been little progress. Having a psychoeducational assessment done will give Jack’s school and parents key information in providing him with support for his complex learning needs and to help Jack gain self-confidence and develop positive beliefs in himself and his abilities.

Our Mission
In memory of our son Jeremy, The Jeremy Wohl Education Society, BC Registry S0070967, was established in March of 2019, to support students with designated learning disabilities. The Society provides the support, resources and tools needed to further the education of those students through funding of scholarships, educational assessments and tutorial support.
Jeremy was dyslexic and the challenges he faced have made us aware that change is necessary to create a positive impact on students facing similar obstacles. Jeremy touched so many people in many different ways and we wish to honour him in establishing this society in his name. With this in mind, and with continued support from the community we will create an everlasting legacy to Jeremy.
